ECOLODGE PROJECT
BASIC PRINCIPLES:
An ecolodge is a small accommodation located in natural or protected areas with the following characteristics:
It has a minimal environmental impact.
It is integrated into the habitat and the community in which it is found.
It has adequate comfort for its guests.
It is a base point for the interpretation and enjoyment of nature.
In summary and the keyword: It is Sustainable, both in its construction and in its development.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:
To achieve the objective of being sustainable, it must meet a series of parameters:
2.1. HOTEL MANAGEMENT:
We elaborate our ethical and moral principles of management.
Responsible Marketing and Accounting Project.
We created our corporate social responsibility manifesto.
2.2. INFRASTRUCTURE. BUILDINGS:
Use of local materials: we have used Guadua (Bamboo) and Chanul wood, among others, for the realization of the house and the cabins.
Use of environmentally safe materials: No environmentally aggressive chemical compounds have been used.
Design that respects the environment, local traditions and its users:
The house replicates the traditional house of a coffee farm, a space where the family that keeps the farm lives and where they coexist with the workers and visitors who are there at all times.
The cabins start from a traditional design, but introduce variations in their form and execution, being respectful as well as modern.
Efficient design and takes into account bioclimatic architecture criteria. The design responds to the characteristics of the climate of the area:
Its extended cover protects from sunlight and rain.
Its elevation above the ground protects from moisture and animals.
The walls keep you warm on cold days and cool on warm days, aided by natural cross ventilation.
The design enhances and encourages the contemplation of the natural environment in which it is located, seeking open spaces of relationship.
We have hired local labor for the execution of the works and for the management of the farm.
2.3. BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT:
We are involved in the preservation of the natural habitat and the species of flora and fauna that live in it.
We take care of the fragile ecosystems that exist, such as streams and cloud forests.
We provide mechanisms to appreciate and enjoy nature: through the activities that take place in the ecolodge, related to the global farm: bird watching, hiking through streams and forests, knowledge of the flora ...
2.4. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
We take special care to conserve and protect the water and energy resources that the farm has, through a responsible and controlled use of water and electricity.
We do not have elements of air pollution, beyond the kitchen of the house.
2.5. WASTE MANAGEMENT:
The activity does not generate large volumes of waste.
There are differentiated containers to separate them by their different nature.
They are taken to the Pueblo Rico recycling point for management.
There is a wastewater collection and treatment system.
2.6. SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT:
We use local products, both for daily cooking and for the maintenance of the farm.
We promote gastronomy and local products.
2.7. SOCIO-CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT:
We have a commitment with the local community, to encourage hiring in the tasks of the farm and the ecolodge.
We preserve and develop the farm as part of the maintenance of the local and zonal heritage.
We will develop environmental education and information programs together with the local Corporation and the Pueblo Rico schools.
